Venison Cheeseburger Casserole

With layers of sliced baked potato, melty cheese and deliciously seasoned venison, this Venison Cheeseburger Casserole is sure to be a hit no matter what crowd is around. It’s the ultimate comfort food dinner and a perfect wild game meal to warm you up after spending the day outdoors. It comes together in just a few steps, and you can even bake the potatoes in advance to make the cook time even quicker.

Ingredients

4 Medium Potatoes 

2 pounds Ground Venison

1 Large Onion, Finely Diced

1 tablespoon Minced Garlic

1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce

2 teaspoon Garlic Powder

1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika

1 teaspoon Chili Powder

1 teaspoon Salt 

½ teaspoon Black Pepper

1 (15 ounce) Can Petite Diced Tomatoes

1/2 cup Beef Broth

1 cup Sour Cream

1 (8 ounce) block Cheddar Cheese, Shredded

1 tablespoon Chopped Fresh Parsley (To Garnish)

Recipe Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

  2. Pierce potatoes with a fork a few times then wrap with aluminum foil and place into the oven and bake potatoes for 50-60 minutes. Allow to cool then slice into ¼ inch thick rounds.

  3. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray. 

  4. In a large deep skillet, add in ground venison and diced onion. Cook until the ground venison is just no longer pink, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain off any excess fat.

  5. Add in minced garlic and cook until fragrant.

  6. Add in Worcestershire sauce and seasonings and mix well. Then add in petite diced tomatoes, beef broth and sour cream. Mix well and remove from heat.

  7. Layer the potatoes on the bottom of the greased baking dish. Top with half of the cheese then top with venison mixture, and remaining cheese. Then well bake in the oven for 2530 minutes.

  8. Allow to cool for 5 minutes prior to slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley. Slice and serve. Top with a drizzle of ketchup, pickles, or your favorite burger condiments for the ultimate cheeseburger casserole.
